Mr. Justin Moeckli- Merlo IET Principal
Welcome to the 2025–26 School Year, Merlo Wolves!
My name is Justin Moeckli, and I am honored to begin my second year as principal of Merlo Institute. I’ve spent 25 years in education, with the past 8 in district and site-level leadership. At Merlo, it is our collective mission to ensure that every student experiences success in rigorous learning environments while feeling supported in becoming college, career, and community ready. We believe in fostering a safe, inclusive space that promotes diversity, equity, academic challenge, and environmental awareness.
Merlo is a unique specialty high school where students embark on meaningful pathways in Environmental Resources, Engineering Technology, and Graphic Design. These courses allow students to explore fields like energy and power tech, telecommunications, electrical and industrial engineering, 3D modeling, animation, and game design. Through our partnership with Delta College, many students earn dual credit—moving more quickly toward college degrees. Alongside this, our AVID elective and schoolwide WICOR strategies (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) continue to raise academic achievement, preparing students for success beyond graduation. In fact, students who complete three or more years of AVID have a 98% college acceptance rate.
As we prepare for the 2025–26 school year, we also want to celebrate the incredible achievements of our students and families last year. Over 90% of our seniors graduated on time with all credits earned, and more than half completed A–G requirements. Our FAFSA completion rate climbed to 93%, and Merlo students participated in everything from the Rancho Seco Solar Regatta and CSU campus tours, robotics competitions, and student-led rallies through our PLUS program. Suspension rates decreased, while school pride and unity soared. These accomplishments are a testament to the resilience and dedication of our Wolf Pack.
On behalf of the entire Merlo staff, thank you for choosing our school. We’re excited to continue building on this momentum and can’t wait to welcome students back on Wednesday, July 31st. Should you have any questions, feel free to reach out to a member of our team—or contact me directly at jmoeckli@stocktonusd.net or (209) 933‑7160 ext. 4702.
Here’s to another remarkable year at Merlo, where wolves don’t just dream—they lead.
With gratitude and anticipation,
Justin Moeckli
Principal, Merlo Institute
